Which route each base runs

On Lanzarote you're not just choosing a buggy, you're choosing a part of the island. Each company starts from a different place and each departure has its own landscape: the vineyards and villages of the centre, the ravines and viewpoints of the north, or the edge of the volcano park by road.

Puerto Calero and Yaiza: the centre and La Geria

Buggies Lanzarote leaves from Puerto Calero marina itself. The 2 h route follows tracks behind Puerto del Carmen to Tías, Güime, San Bartolomé, Masdache and Montaña Blanca, passes lava caves and stops at a winery in La Geria. The 3 h route adds the Playa Quemada coast, passes close to El Cuervo volcano and Mancha Blanca, and drops down a track to La Santa, with views of La Graciosa. Details on our Puerto Calero buggies page.

Lanzabuggy's Can-Am Trail names the same places: Puerto Calero, Tías, San Bartolomé, Montaña Blanca, Masdache and La Asomada. They're separate companies on the same tracks; Lanzabuggy is based on the LZ-2 at km 17 (Yaiza).

Costa Teguise: the north up to Peñas del Chache

H2O Sports starts in Costa Teguise, almost at sea level, and climbs past the old Guatiza quarries, the Mala dam among cactus fields and the area around Peñas del Chache, the highest point on the island at about 670 m, in Haría. The summit is a military radar site: you can see it but not set foot on it. The way down is through Teseguite and the El Mojón quarry.

  • The 3 h version adds a cochineal stop, Los Cocoteros and Charco del Palo.
  • The 4- and 6-seater buggies also pass the Las Nieves viewpoint (about 600 m, Teguise) and the Teguise lime kilns. GetYourGuide says "about 50 %" of that route is on dirt track.

Bear in mind that the north faces the trade winds: at 670 m the air is about 4 °C colder than on the coast and you feel the wind through the steering wheel. More in Costa Teguise buggy tours.

Puerto del Carmen and family routes: volcanoes on tarmac

H2O's on-road tour leaves from Puerto del Carmen, crosses the volcanic landscape, stops for a walk of about 1 km (around 40 minutes) to El Cuervo volcano, carries on through the La Geria vineyards and the Las Grietas rock formation, and returns to Puerto del Carmen. It takes up to four people per buggy.

Lanzabuggy's family buggies (4 seats) start in Uga, cross Timanfaya National Park on the LZ-67 road and the Los Volcanes Natural Park, pass through Tinajo, Mancha Blanca, Masdache and Tías, and stop at Los Hervideros (may change because of weather or road closures) and at a winery in La Geria.

Paracraft, at Playa Chica, sells a buggy for up to 4 from €250 but doesn't publish the route. Ask before you book. More in Puerto del Carmen buggy tours.

Playa Blanca: pick-ups for buggies, quads in the south

No buggy tour starts in Playa Blanca. The buggy companies pick you up there: Lanzabuggy has 16 pick-up points in Playa Blanca, and H2O offers optional pick-up for €5 per person.

What does leave from Playa Blanca is guided quad tours. According to the resellers' listings, they cover the volcanic south towards Femés, Yaiza, the Janubio salt pans, Los Hervideros and El Golfo, with between 50 % and 75 % on dirt track depending on the product. We explain it in Playa Blanca buggies and quads.

What no route does

  • Tracks inside Timanfaya. In the national park you can only drive on the LZ-67. El Cuervo and Los Hervideros are in the Los Volcanes Natural Park, a separate area.
  • Beaches and dunes. Spain's Coastal Law (Ley de Costas) bans driving on beaches, and in protected areas leaving authorised tracks carries fines of €600 to €6,000. There's nowhere on the island where you can legally drive a buggy on sand. More in dune buggies and beach buggies.
  • Papagayo. Los Ajaches is a natural monument: a company was fined €4,500 in 2025 for taking a buggy convoy there. You reach Papagayo by car along the toll track, or by sea.

And one warning that affects every route with dirt sections: on 2 October 2026 the Cabildo (island council) opened a one-month public consultation on a bylaw that could restrict or ban buggies and quads on dirt tracks and rural land. Nothing is banned today, but off-road sections could move onto tarmac. Confirm the route when you book and follow the story on our off-road buggy page.
