Buggies and quads in Playa Blanca: who picks you up and what you can see

No dune buggy tour in Playa Blanca actually starts in the resort: operators collect you from your hotel or you drive to their base, 20–45 minutes away. What does leave from the south is guided quad biking, from €75 per two-person quad. Papagayo is on no route at all.

If you're staying in Playa Blanca and looking for buggy hire, the first thing to know is where each tour really starts. Booking platforms sometimes tag a tour "Playa Blanca" because there's a pick-up in the area, not because the buggy sets off from there. GetYourGuide, for example, labels the Costa Teguise off-road tour "Playa Blanca", and that one starts roughly 45 minutes away by car.

What the south does have is something else: guided quads leaving from Playa Blanca itself or from Yaiza. Below you'll find both options with drive times, prices and what you see on each.

Do any buggy tours start in Playa Blanca?

No. No buggy operator has its departure point in Playa Blanca. These are the real bases:

  • Aventura Lanzabuggy: LZ-2 km 17, Yaiza. The closest base, with 16 pick-up points in Playa Blanca.
  • Buggies Lanzarote: Puerto Calero marina. No pick-up; you make your own way there.
  • H2O Sports Lanzarote: the off-road tour leaves from Costa Teguise and the road tour from Puerto del Carmen. Pick-up is optional and costs €5 per person.
  • Paracraft: buggies from Puerto del Carmen (next to Playa Chica). It has a base at Marina Rubicón, but that one is for water sports.

There's no company called "Lanzarote Buggy" in Playa Blanca either. We go into it in who really operates in Playa Blanca. This site is an independent guide, not an operator.

What it means in practice: without a hire car, Lanzabuggy is the easiest choice because Playa Blanca pick-ups are built into its booking system. With a car, Puerto Calero is half an hour away, and the Puerto Calero buggy tour is one of the best rated on the island. Costa Teguise is a long way: about 45 minutes each way plus the tour itself, and your whole morning is gone.

Quad biking in Playa Blanca: what does leave from the south

If you want to set off from Playa Blanca itself, a quad is the realistic option. Here's what we found:

  • Rent a Quad Lanzarote, in Playa Blanca. According to third-party listings, 1-hour trips from €55, 2 hours from €85 and 3 hours from €110, per two-person quad. A helmet is included; the driver needs a licence and must be at least 18. Despite the name, every trip is guided: you can't take a quad out on your own.
  • South Quad on GetYourGuide: 90 minutes through the volcanic south, from €75 per quad for up to two (about €37.50 each if there are two of you). GetYourGuide lists it under "RENT A QUAD", located in Yaiza. It only has a couple of reviews, so there's not enough to judge it on yet. Check dates for the south Lanzarote quad.
  • Local resellers such as Canco sell Playa Blanca quads along the south coast: 1.5 h for €100 per quad, "about 70 % off-road" according to their listing.

The quad routes advertised in the south take in areas such as the Salinas de Janubio, Los Hervideros, El Golfo, Yaiza or Femés, mixing dirt tracks and tarmac. The exact split varies by operator and by day, so ask about the route before you pay.

Since 1 October 2026, quad riders must wear an approved helmet, gloves on interurban roads and closed shoes. More on the differences in quad or buggy.

What you can see from the south (and what you can't)

This is where most of the false promises are made. Here's what the rules and the published routes say:

Papagayo and Los Ajaches: not buggy territory. The Los Ajaches Natural Monument is protected. In July 2025 Cabildo officers stopped a buggy convoy there, and the company was fined €4,500. You reach the Papagayo coves by car along a dirt road with a €3-per-vehicle barrier, or by boat, but no legal buggy tour goes there.

Los Hervideros and El Golfo: yes, but by road. They sit in the Los Volcanes Natural Park, in Yaiza. Lanzabuggy's family routes in four-seater buggies stop at Los Hervideros (the stop can change because of weather, road closures or events). The Charco de los Clicos can only be seen from the viewpoint.

Timanfaya: only from the LZ-67. You can't leave the tarmac inside the National Park. Tours cross it on the public road or see it from outside. If you want the Montañas del Fuego visit, that's separate (€30 per adult, with a time slot booked online).

La Geria: yes. Several routes run through the vineyards and stop at a winery. The driver shouldn't drink: the drink-drive limit still applies.

Which buggy tour is worth it from Playa Blanca?

It depends on whether you have a car and what you want to see.

Off-road north and the Peñas del ChacheH2O, Costa Teguise€150 per buggy€7545 min by car

Our pick if you're staying in the south: with a car, the 3-hour tour from Puerto Calero is the best balance of distance and route. It follows coastal tracks to Playa Quemada, drops down towards La Santa and stops at a La Geria winery. Without a car, Lanzabuggy saves you the transfer. If you're after views from up high, the off-road tour in the north is the most reviewed on the island, with more than 5,500 reviews and a 4.6 rating, but it adds nearly an hour and a half of driving there and back.

Good to know before you book

  • Age and licence. To drive the buggy you'll usually need to be 20–21 and have held a licence for 2 years (H2O, 20+; Lanzabuggy, 21+ except the Maverick Trail, which takes 18+ with a category B licence). Bring your original licence: H2O won't accept copies or photos. Details in licence, age and requirements.
  • Passengers. In a two-seater buggy, usually 1.35 m minimum. With small children, a four-seater is the better bet.
  • Dust and wind. The tracks throw up a lot of dust and the trade wind blows harder in summer. Operators hand out goggles; a scarf or buff for your face helps.
  • Routes that may change. On 2 October 2026 the Cabildo opened a one-month public consultation on a by-law that could restrict or ban buggies and quads on dirt tracks and rural land. Nothing is banned today, but routes could move onto tarmac. When you book, check how much of the route is off-road.
  • No self-drive hire. We found no unguided buggy or quad hire on Lanzarote. Everything is a guided group excursion.

An alternative from the port: buggies on Fuerteventura

Playa Blanca has the ferry to Corralejo, which is why a full-day trip shows up: a buggy tour of northern Fuerteventura with a visit to Corralejo. It lasts about 10 hours and costs from €124 per person (not per buggy). It's rated 4.1 from just over 50 reviews, lower than the Lanzarote tours. It makes sense if you want to see another island; if you only want to drive a buggy, it's better value to do it here. See the Corralejo trip.

If you'd rather be on the water, Playa Blanca also has jet skis from Marina Rubicón. The buggy and jet ski combos leave from Puerto del Carmen or Puerto Calero.
