Most tour buggies on Lanzarote are Can-Am Mavericks, but they're not all the same: the 173 hp X3 Turbo costs €230 per buggy and needs drivers of 21; the Trail with its Rotax 800 engine costs €170 and takes drivers from 18. The 4-seaters start at €160.

When a tour on Lanzarote says "Can-Am", it almost always means the Maverick family, Can-Am's automatic buggies. But there's a big gap between a Trail and an X3 Turbo in power, in price and in who's allowed to drive it. Here we sort out which model each company uses, using only the figures the operators publish themselves.
| Vehicle | Engine / stated power | Seats | Who uses it | Price per buggy | Driver |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maverick X3 XRS Turbo | turbo, 173 hp, automatic | 2 | Lanzabuggy | €230 (3 h) | 21+, licence held 2 years |
| Maverick Trail (2021) | Rotax 800 ACE, automatic | 2 | Lanzabuggy | €170 (3 h), €130 (2 h direct) | 18+, full B licence |
| 4-seater buggy | Rotax 1000 cc, automatic | 4 | Lanzabuggy | €160 (2.5 h, on-road) | 21+, 2 years; max. 2 drivers |
| Can-Am Maverick 2-seater | automatic (model not specified) | 2 | Buggies Lanzarote | €170 on GetYourGuide, €160 direct (3 h) | licence held 2 years |
| Maverick Trail 2-seater and 4-seater | as per the operator's website | 2 / 4 | H2O (Buggy Experience) | €150 (2-seater) / €200 (4-seater) | 20+, 2 years, original licence |
Two points to clear up. The Rotax 800 ACE engine only appears on Lanzabuggy's Maverick Trail; it isn't the engine across its whole fleet. And the only power figure any operator publishes is the X3 Turbo's: 173 hp. If another seller advertises a "200 hp" buggy, ask exactly which model it is.
This is Lanzabuggy's 3-hour buggy on road and track, at €230 per buggy, around €115 per person for two. Drivers must be 21 with a licence held for 2 years. On GetYourGuide it scores 4.5 out of 5 from around 150 reviews.
It makes sense if you've already driven buggies or motorbikes and want a vehicle with some punch. Bear in mind that in a guided convoy the guide sets the pace, and according to reviews of Lanzabuggy a good part of the route is on the road. The reseller excursionslanzarote.com sells the same 173 hp tour at €240, €10 more than on GetYourGuide or Lanzabuggy's website.
Lanzabuggy's Can-Am Trail costs €170 per buggy for 3 hours (€85 per person for two). Its website has a 2-hour version for €130. The route runs through Puerto Calero, Tías, San Bartolomé, Montaña Blanca, Masdache and La Asomada.
Its big advantage is the age limit: 18 with a full B (car) licence, when nearly everything else on the island asks for 20 or 21. For a group of young friends, or an 18-year-old son or daughter who wants to drive, this is the one. On GetYourGuide it scores 4.5 from more than 300 reviews.
H2O, in Costa Teguise, also says it uses the Maverick Trail for its 2-seaters, but its rule is different: 20 years old and 2 years with a licence.
Lanzabuggy uses 4-seater buggies with a Rotax 1000 cc engine; its GetYourGuide listing describes them as automatic Maverick Sports. The 2.5-hour on-road tour costs €160 per buggy, €40 per person with four on board, and crosses Timanfaya on the LZ-67 to Los Hervideros and La Geria. No more than two adults aged 21 or over may drive it.
H2O has its 4- or 6-seater buggy in the north, with roughly half the route on dirt track, from €200 per 4-seater. The 6-seater version exists (€270 for 2 h), but the exact model isn't confirmed. More detail in 4- and 6-seater buggies.
Buggies Lanzarote, at Puerto Calero marina, advertises "new automatic Can-Am Mavericks" with two seats, without naming a model. Its 3-hour tour goes down to La Santa and stops at a La Geria winery. On GetYourGuide the 3-hour tour with volcano park views costs €170 per buggy and scores 4.8 out of 5; going by the route and starting point, it belongs to this company. On its own website it costs €160, or €150 with the €10 online booking discount: here, booking direct saves you €20.
It doesn't publish a minimum driver age, but it does ask for a licence held for 2 years. More on the Puerto Calero page.
Whichever model you pick, the tracks could change: on 2 October 2026 the Cabildo (the island council) opened a public consultation on a bylaw that could restrict buggies and quads on tracks and rural land. Nothing is banned yet; check when you book how much of the route is on track.
We haven't found self-drive Maverick buggy hire anywhere: everything on sale is a convoy tour. The only Can-Am you can hire without a guide is the Ryker, a three-wheeler from H2O: €150 for 24 hours, on a car licence. The Can-Am Spyder, another three-wheeler, is offered by Lanzabuggy as a guided tour for €160. More on hire in buggy hire and on three-wheelers in trike and Slingshot.
Lanzabuggy uses the Maverick X3 XRS Turbo (173 hp), the Maverick Trail with a Rotax 800 ACE engine and Rotax 1000 cc 4-seaters. Buggies Lanzarote and H2O use automatic 2- and 4-seater Mavericks.
From €130 per buggy (2-hour Trail, booked direct) to €230 for the 3-hour X3 Turbo. That's the price for a 2-seater vehicle: between €65 and €115 per person for two.
At 18 with a full B (car) licence you can drive Lanzabuggy's Maverick Trail. The X3 Turbo and the 4-seaters need you to be 21 with a licence held for 2 years; H2O asks for 20 and 2 years with a licence.
Not a Maverick buggy: all the tours are guided. Only the three-wheeled Can-Am Ryker can be hired without a guide, from H2O, for €150 for 24 hours.
Yes, Lanzabuggy offers a 3-hour guided tour on a Can-Am Spyder F3 for €160. It isn't sold on GetYourGuide; you book it on Lanzabuggy's website.
