H2O Sports Lanzarote has two sides: jet skis and boats from the old harbour in Puerto del Carmen, and buggies in the north of the island, where it's the most-reviewed name around. It sells under two brands: H2O Sports Lanzarote (h2olanzarote.com) and Buggy Experience Lanzarote (buggyexperiencelanzarote.com). They're the same business: same phone number, same booking system and the same registered company, H2O Actividades Acuáticas S.L., based in Arrecife.

Quick verdict

Good for: anyone staying in Costa Teguise or the north, anyone who wants to see Peñas del Chache, Guatiza and Mala from a buggy, families or groups who need 4 or 6 seats, and anyone who likes having thousands of verified reviews to read before booking.

Not for: drivers aged 18 or 19 (H2O requires 20), anyone who only has their licence on their phone or as a photocopy, and anyone after the volcanic south on dirt tracks: H2O only goes south by road, on its on-road tour. For that, compare Buggies Lanzarote or LanzaBuggy.

The website talks about "ten guided routes", but one of the ten is the unguided Ryker hire.

Route, vehicles and requirements

The off-road buggy starts in Costa Teguise and heads north: the old Guatiza quarries, Mala dam, Peñas del Chache (about 670 m, the island's highest point; the summit is military and you don't drive up it), Teseguite and the El Mojón quarry. The 3-hour version adds cochineal, Los Cocoteros and Charco del Palo. The 4- and 6-seat buggy also takes in the Mirador de las Nieves and the Teguise lime kilns, with roughly half the route on dirt tracks. The full route, with wind and meeting point, is on buggy tours in Costa Teguise.

The on-road buggy starts in Puerto del Carmen, not Costa Teguise: the volcanic park, a 1 km walk (about 40 minutes) to El Cuervo volcano, the La Geria vineyards and Las Grietas.

Vehicles. The Buggy Experience website mentions two-seat Can-Am Maverick Trail 800s and four-seat Maverick Trail 1000Rs. The model of the six-seater isn't confirmed.

Requirements:

  • Driver aged 20 or over, with a licence held for 2 years. Only the original licence is accepted, plus a passport or ID card. The on-road page says both "20 years" and "not suitable for under-21s": if you're 20, ask first.
  • Passengers at least 1.35 m tall on the off-road buggies. No weight limit.
  • Not suitable for pregnant women or anyone with back problems. Closed shoes.
  • Guide, insurance, helmet, dust goggles and windbreaker included. Optional pick-up: €5 per person.
  • The Ryker is driven on a car licence; not suitable for under-10s.

Price: direct versus GetYourGuide

On the three buggy products H2O sells on GetYourGuide, the price is the same as on its own website:

Direct or on GetYourGuide, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. GetYourGuide adds the option to book now and pay later (you're charged 72 hours before) and reviews from customers who have done the tour. H2O's own site has options GetYourGuide doesn't list, such as the 3-hour off-road tour and the jet ski combo. Viator, Civitatis and OK Lanzarote sell the same northern route, also at €150. Until recently the 2-hour two-seater cost €130; if a guide still quotes that, it's an old price.

What the reviews keep saying

H2O has the biggest pool of buggy reviews on Lanzarote: 4.6 out of 5 from more than 5,500 reviews on GetYourGuide for the off-road tour, 4.6 from more than 700 for the on-road tour and 4.5 from nearly 700 for the 4- or 6-seater. In the Google reviews published on its website, the same things come up again and again: the guides (many customers mention them by name), feeling safe, and the views from high up in the north.

The downsides that appear:

  • One 4-star review expected "some driving on tracks" and found a route that was mostly tarmac.
  • On Tripadvisor (listing "H2O Sport Lanzarote", 4.8 from about 1,100 reviews, according to Tripadvisor search results) there is at least one review titled "Did not turn up!" about the 2-hour buggy.
  • Photos taken by the guide cost extra; according to one review, €15.

Weak points

  • Contradictory information on its website. The combo page says "2 hours" but describes 1 hour of jet ski plus 2 of buggy, and mixes the minimum age for the jet ski (16) with the buggy's (20). On the on-road page, "20 years" and "21 years" sit side by side. GetYourGuide gives 3 h for the on-road tour; H2O says 2.5 h.
  • Unclear group size. The pages mention 8 participants on the two-seater and up to 5 buggies on the four-seater, while the Buggy Experience site says a maximum of 4 buggies plus the guide.
  • Shop address. Some listings say Avenida del Golf (next to the DISA petrol station), others Calle La Goleta. Check your voucher carefully.
  • Routes subject to change. The listing warns that the route may vary without a refund for reasons beyond the company's control. And since 2 October 2026 the Cabildo has been consulting on a bylaw that could limit buggies on dirt tracks: nothing is banned today, but the route could move onto tarmac. We explain it in off-road buggy tours on Lanzarote.

How to book

  • On GetYourGuide, if you want to pay later and cancel free up to 24 hours before, at the same price.
  • Direct at h2olanzarote.com (or on WhatsApp, +34 689 749 318), if you want the 3-hour off-road tour, the Ryker or the jet ski combo.

Whichever way you book, bring your physical driving licence and your ID card or passport on the day. To compare with the other companies, see our buggy tour comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Are H2O Sports and Buggy Experience Lanzarote the same company?

Yes. Buggy Experience Lanzarote is a brand of H2O Sports Lanzarote: same phone number, same booking system and the same northern route from Costa Teguise.

Where does the H2O Sports buggy tour start?

The off-road tours and the Ryker start in Costa Teguise. The on-road volcano tour starts in Puerto del Carmen.

Is it cheaper to book direct with H2O than on GetYourGuide?

No: the price is the same, from €150 per two-seat buggy. The difference lies in the options (some are only sold on H2O's website) and in payment, as GetYourGuide lets you book now and pay later.

What do I need to drive an H2O buggy?

You must be 20 or over, have held your licence for at least 2 years, and bring the original licence (no copies) plus a passport or ID card. Passengers must be at least 1.35 m tall.
